News & Announcements:

Saturday, February 1 is Take your Child to the Library Day!
Take Your Child to the Library Day is an international initiative that started in 2011 to encourage families everywhere to take their children to their local library. YOUR local library invites you to visit us on February 1st and bring the children in your life.  Our newly re-imagined community room will be stocked with fun activities and open for everyone to enjoy!  There will be board games, puzzles, video games, and crafts available all day long (9:00-3:00) – just stop by and have some fun!

On the Table – Food & Fun at the Library | Monthly, beginning in February
On the Table is a series of monthly food and nutrition focused events at the Gibsonville Public Library. These events are designed to be an opportunity for us to come together as a community to cook and create, learn about the food we eat, and to have some fun. Each month’s intended audience will rotate between PreK & Elementary, Middle & High School, and Adults Only.  See all the upcoming events at giblib.org/table. And, if you are interested in presenting, sponsoring, or donating to an “On the Table” event, please contact us at mail@giblib.org

Laptops now available for check-out
The Gibsonville Public Library now offers laptops for check-out to the community. As with hotspots, anyone with a Gibsonville Public Library card in good standing can reserve or check-out a laptop, but those under 18 will need a parent’s signature and presence at the time of check-out.  Read our laptop policies here, and preview the laptop user guide and agreement form.

Pet Adoption Event – Teen Volunteer Project | Saturday, Feb 15, 10 AM – 2 PM
Come support local shelters and pet rescue organizations!  Our teen volunteers are still working on the details, but the event will include a pet supply donation drive (toys, food, etc.), fundraising for local rescue organizations, and visits from adoptable animals.  Come show your support for our local teen volunteers and the great cause they have chosen to support with this project!

Happy 149th Birthday, Gibsonville!
February 18th is Charter Day in Gibsonville.  It is the date in 1871 that Gibsonville officially became a town.  That means this year is our 149th birthday – which makes next year a BIG one!  We’re celebrating with cake and punch after a birthday-themed storytime for preschool children and their caregivers at 11:00.  Everyone is invited to come get a piece of cake and wish Gibsonville a happy birthday starting at 11:30 AM.  Cake and punch available as supplies last.

School-age Activities

Sleepover Snacks & Stuffie Sleepover Event | Saturday, Feb. 22, 11 AM – 12 PM
At our first On the Table event, we’re making healthy sleepover snacks including veggie pizza and dipped fruit with kids 10 and under. For extra fun, bring along a stuffed animal who can have its own “sleepover” weekend at the library!  Leave your stuffie at the library to “sleep over” and have fun with other stuffed friends. The librarians will make sure they have a good time and will post pictures of their sleepover party adventures on the library’s Facebook page and Instagram.  You can pick up your stuffie the following Monday and find out which library book they want to take home and read with you!   Registration is required for this FREE event so that we can plan for supplies.

Afterschool S.T.E.A.M. Activities | Thursdays at 4:00 PM
Join us for a fun STEAM (that’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) activity each Thursday afternoon at 4:00 PM during the school year. These activities are intended for elementary and middle school students. This month, sometimes science looks like magic! Learn the science you need to: bend light, walk through paper, pierce a potato with a straw, make magic ink and more!

Saturday Matinee – The Kid who would be King | Saturday, Feb. 8,  12:30 – 2:30 PM
Saturday Movie Matinees are held regularly on the second Saturday of each month. This month’s movie is: The Kid Who Would Be King, a fantastical adventure for fans of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or the Narnia tales.

This 2019 movie is rated PG.

Ani-Makers – for Middle and High School students | Saturday, Feb 22 at 1:00 PM
Calling all anime fans, creative types, makers and friends! We started a group just for you. Each month, we’ll get together to watch a fun animated thing and create a fun thing, too. This is your group – so we want you to help shape our activities to reflect your own interests. Have a great craft idea? Share it! Have a new favorite show? Share that too! Bring your friends and make some new friends. Next Meeting RESCHEDULED for Saturday, February 22 at 1:00 PM
