Summer Reading kicks off on June 16th!
Come to the library this summer to find out just how much Gibsonville Rocks!  Participating in a summer reading program is a great way to help students avoid the “summer slide” and keep them engaged while school is out, BUT summer reading can be fun for everyone, regardless of age!  Kids, teens, and adults are all encouraged to rock out with us all summer long!

Family Events:

Summer Reading Kick-Off | Saturday, June 16, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

The Library’s 2018 Summer Reading Program, “Gibsonville ROCKS!” kicks off on Saturday, June 16th. Come register for summer reading and get your free tote bag filled with everything you need to get started.
From 9 AM – 12 PM, come see Miss Ashley downtown to sign up for
summer reading and take part in a chalk art party decorating the sidewalks of Gibsonville. Or, stop by the library anytime between 9 AM and 3 PM for chalk art at the library. Either way, you can earn you first exclusive summer reading badge by participating – the Chalk Star badge!

The Rocking Library Science Show | Monday, June 18, 1:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Come see just how rocking the library can be with The Rocking Library Science Show! A fun filled mix of science, storytelling, fiction and nonfiction sure to be a hit with any budding scientists. The Insane Library Science Guy will take us on a journey through the library collection with interactive stories, science demos and a special nod to the maddest scientist in history….the Library scientist!



Elementary & Middle School Age:

Active Afternoons | Thursdays, 2:00 – 3:00 PM

Join us on Thursdays at 2:00 PM in June and July for fun activities with a weekly theme — all a part of our Gibsonville ROCKS Summer Reading Program!
Week 1 : Feel the Beat with Centre Stage on Main  – Thurs. June 21 @ 2 PM
Week 2 : Our Town Create your OWN town – Thurs. June 28 @ 2 PM


Elementary Book Club
 | Fourth Thursday each month, 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Middle School Book Club | First Thursday each month, 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

We are launching book clubs for elementary and middle school students focused on the Battle of the Books reading lists for 2018-2019.



High School & Adult:

Alamance Reads | June-July 2018

Alamance Reads is a civic event designed to encourage reading and significant conversation among Alamance County citizens by gathering people around a common book and providing a shared reading experience.
This year’s selection is Station Eleven by author Emily St. John Mandel.
Copies of the book are available for check-out at the library.
The Gibsonville Library is hosting a book discussion on Saturday, July 14th at 2:00 PM. There are other discussions planned at the Alamance County Libraries throughout the summer. Learn more about Alamance Reads at http://www.alamancereads.org/

 

High School Book Club | Second Thursday each month, 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
We are launching a book club for high school students focused on the Battle of the Books reading lists for 2018-2019.

Gentle Reads Book Club | Third Thursday each month, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
“Gentle Reads” include a variety of books that “won’t make you blush,” including cozy mysteries, inspiring stories, and general fiction. For older teens/adults.

 


Story Times:

Saturday Family Storytimes – Saturdays at 10:00 AM beginning June 2
We are now offering a family-style story time each Saturday morning at 10:00 AM starting in June. Join Miss Amanda for fun stories, songs and activities and bring the whole family!  And on the last Saturday of each month there will be a special Bilingual Family Storytime where we will present stories and songs in English and Spanish and the whole family is invited!

 

Toddler Story time | Wednesdays at 10:00 AM
Kids 3 and under and their caregivers are invited to come enjoy stories, fingerplays, and songs.

Pre-K Story time | Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 11:00 AM
These story times, geared for 4-5 year olds, feature stories, crafts and activities.
