News & Announcements:

Mobile WiFi Hotspots available for check-out starting October 1st!
The library’s mission is “Connecting people to quality information, opportunities, the world, and each other to foster community, discovery, and compassion.”  One of the most important ways we connect with the world of information is online.  In order to help everyone in our community connect, learn, and succeed, we will offer WiFi hotspots for check-out starting in October.  Learn more about this service from the library at giblib.org/hotspots.

October is STAR WARS Reads Month!
There are few things we love as much as we love reading around here, but STAR WARS comes close!  Come celebrate the joy we get from reading AND from Star Wars all month long at the library.  Check out Star Wars books for all ages, have fun with Star Wars activities available all month long at the library, and make sure to stop by in your best Star Wars costume as we get ready for Halloween.  October 10th is Star Wars Reads day, so our afterschool activity that afternoon will have a Star Wars theme – participants are encouraged to come in costume if they want!

Saturday Movie Matinee | Saturday, October 12 at 12:30 PM
The library offers FREE Saturday Movie Matinees each month, and this month’s film Ugly Dolls.  It is an animated musical adventure starring the acting and singing voices of Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton and Pitbull. This movie is about acceptance, diversity, joy and friendship. It shows us that the words ugly and pretty and perfect and imperfect are just words and it’s up to you what you make of those words.
Matinees will be held regularly on the second Saturday of each month going forward! We plan to alternate between newly released child/family-friendly movies and recent movies based on popular books. See what’s showing next at giblib.org/movies

Read with Daisy, a local therapy dog
Daisy and her human love to read with kids who could use a loving, nonjudgmental reading partner.  If your early reader would like to schedule a time to read with Daisy, you can call the library at 336-449-6455, or submit an online request form.  Daisy’s human will work to set up a time that works for you.

Teen Volunteer Opportunity – Plan a Community Halloween Event!
We need volunteers ages 12-17 to help plan and then run a community Halloween Event! If you are interested, come to our first planning session on Thursday, September 26 at 5:00 PM, or sign up online.
Everyone is invited to come see what our teen volunteers come up with at our Community Halloween Event on Saturday, October 26.  Watch our Facebook and Instagram feeds for details as they are available!

School-age Activities

Afterschool S.T.E.A.M. Activities | Thursdays at 4:00 PM
Join us for a fun STEAM (that’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) activity each Thursday afternoon at 4:00 PM during the school year. These activities are intended for elementary and middle school students. This month we’re having fun and learning with pumpkins, glow sticks, gummi worms, and STAR WARS! Plus, since Halloween is on a Thursday this year, we get to have a “costume party” that afternoon, instead.

Homeschool Activities | Every third Friday at 10:00 AM
Homeschool families are invited to join us every third Friday at 10:00 AM for STEAM activities and the chance to meet other area homeschoolers. Activities will mirror afterschool themes each month.

Ani-Makers – for Middle and High School students | Every third Saturday, 1:00 PM
Calling all anime fans, creative types, makers and friends! We want to start a group just for you. Each month, we’ll get together to watch a fun animated thing and create a fun thing, too. This is your group – so we want you to help shape our activities to reflect your own interests. Have a great craft idea? Share it! Have a new favorite show? Share that too! Bring your friends and make some new friends. Next Meeting Saturday, Oct 19 at 1:00 PM
