Gibsonville Public Library’s Teen Advisory Group
Are you a teen (or perhaps the helpful parent of a teen) looking for something to do in Gibsonville? Then TAG is just what you need!
Sign up for the TAG email list now!
1. What is a Teen Advisory Group?
A Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is a collection of interested youths (like yourself) between the ages of 12-18 who volunteer their time to help shape library services and events designed for teenagers. The librarians at GPL are obviously not teenagers (though we were…once…) and we know that we need some help when trying to figure out what teens want to read and do at the library. That’s where you come in. As a teenager yourself, you have insider information that we desperately need, so we would like for you to come and spill it.
2. How does TAG work?
TAG will meet on a regular basis during the school year to discuss ideas for new teen-focused events and services that the library can work on. The idea is we will have a TAG meeting once a month to plan a special event for the next month. So, at each meeting, we will be planning and coming up with sweet ideas for the next special event. TAGs work best when you get your friends involved so that the special events we plan are based on things that you and your friends LIKE.
3. How do I get started?
First, you can sign up for our TAG email list to get updates on upcoming events and meetings. But if you’d like to get involved in TAG, the best thing to do is to just show up at one of our meetings or events to see what TAG is like. That way, you can make an informed decision about whether or not TAG is for you. All of the meetings and events will be listed on the library’s event calendar and they are all open to everyone ages 12-18. If you decide you want to jump in, come to the next meeting or event and tell us so. We’ll add your name to the official TAG roster and put in an order for your decoder ring*.
4. What’s in it for me?
You mean other than the satisfaction of contributing to your community, working to uplift the name of teenagers everywhere, and the opportunity to bend the library to your will? Well…. we generally have snacks. And, if you need volunteer or service hours for school or other organizations, the time you spend helping out at TAG meetings or teen events can be used for that. That’s a good deal, right? Of course it is!
Now that we’ve answered all of your questions – come check out a meeting and bring your friends. And remember, if you want updates or reminders about our events, you can sign up for our email list here.
*we don’t actually have TAG decoder rings. But we’re not against making TAG t-shirts if the people demand it.
