We just can’t sit September out! Come see us at The Market at Gibsonville – currently held at the Gibsonville Community Center – every Saturday  September 5 – Ocotber 3.
This is a big month for libraries, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you! Library staff will be handing out free books and more on Saturdays from 8 AM – noon all month long. Learn more about the Market at gibsonville.net/marketatgibsonville.

Week 1 (Sept 5th): Library Card Sign-Up!
September is Library Card Sign Up Month!
You can sign up for a library card online at giblib.org/card, in person at the library, or at one of our Market Day events. If you want to get a physical card, you will need to bring a photo ID and proof of your current address if the information on your ID is not up to date. A piece of mail or an official document like a utility bill, vehicle registration or a lease agreement can be used to prove your current address. Digital-only cards can be obtained online at giblib.org/signup.

Week 2 (Sept 12th): Make Yourself Count with the 2020 Census!

2020 Census ends September 30
What matters to you – Schools? Transportation? Hospitals? Data from the Census brings federal tax dollars to our community – that’s $1,623 per person, per year in North Carolina according to a George Washington University report. Data from the Census also helps inform planning efforts for all these important community resources. Data from the Census also determines the number of US Representatives in Congress – NC is expected to gain at least one seat. To learn how Census data impacts you and your community, visit 2020census.gov and census.nc.gov

Week 3 (Sept 19th): Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!
National Hispanic Heritage Month starts September 15
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. We look forward to celebrating with you at our September 15 and 19 Market Day events. Learn more at hispanicheritagemonth.gov.

Week 4 (Sept 26th): Voter Registration Drive!
Voter Registration Day is September 22
Voter registration is more important than ever as states shift policies to respond to COVID-19. At the same time, social distancing prevents many voters from getting registered in their communities, at DMVs, and more. Figure out how to get #VoteReady in NC, including the possibility to register online! If you are a DMV customer with a N.C. driver’s license or DMV-issued ID, you may now register to vote or change certain parts of your registration online for free. Register online at https://payments.ncdot.gov/ and learn more about Voter Registration Day at our September 22 and 26 Market Day events or online at nationalvoterregistrationday.org.

Week 5 (Sept Oct 3rd): Banned Books Week!
Banned Books Week starts September 27
Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. Learn more at our September 29 and October 3 Market Day events and at bannedbooksweek.org.

These events made possible by funding from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (IMLS grant number LS-246155-OLS-20).
